‘Zikr’

In this verse Allah has commanded the believers to profusely do zikr when they struggle in his path because zikr creates strength in the heart which is more important than physical strength. But if we ponder on the verse, we’ll understand that going in the path of Allah in itself is a worship and still Allah is saying remember me. In other words, zikr should be the ‘Backbone’ of all your actions.

This is only one example, there are plenty more in the Quran;
After fulfilling the prerequisites of hajj, remember Allah the same way you would remember you forefathers or even more.

After finishing your salah, remember Allah whilst standing, sitting and lying.

When the Jumma prayer is finished spread out in the earth and look for the Fadl of Allah (which means work and earn halal sustenance) and remember Allah profusely so you can become successful.

After mentioning the rulings of fast, the verse is saying that you’ve been given ramadhan so that you can finish the count and you can ‘praise Allah’ for guiding you and so that you can be grateful.

The path of Allah, Hajj, Fasting, Salah, Jumma these are all fundamental worships of Islam which consist of zikrullah, yet still Allah is saying do zikr after each one of them.

And zikrullah is the only deed mentioned in the Quran with the condition of كثيرا ‘Profuse’, no other worship has this condition.

On a side note for me and you! when a person worships, shaytan creates a bit of arrogance inside the person making him think that he’s done something of praise. So maybe Allah is saying, don’t think you’ve worshipped me out of your own effort, it was me who gave you the ability, so remember me so that your heart stays protected from the evil thoughts of shaytan.

In one Hadith Rasulullah صلي الله عليه و سلم said,
The meaning of which is; shaytan is always behind because he’s your open enemy. If you want to save yourself from him, then continuously do zikr.

And zikrullah is such a worship that one doesn’t need wudhu, one doesn’t need to be sitting towards the qibla, where ever you are and it what ever condition your in you can remember your lord.
Hazrat Moulana Rashid Ahmed Gangohi RA use to say,
It doesn’t matter with how much negligence a person says the name of Allah, it will definitely have an effect on the heart.

Some beautiful poetry on Zikr for those who understand Arabic,
