Q.873 How do I explain why madh'hab is important?

Share This Post

Assalamualikum,

Ustaad one of my relatives does not follow a Mazhab. He says i dont need to follow it because im following what Prophet(PBUH) did. Im following Qur’aan and Hadith. How should i guide him?

Furthermore he says that we call our selfs Hanafi, sunni etc. But in the Qur’aan it says to call us as muslims. So he claims we are bid’at because we are adding an extra group to islam.

How should i explain to him that he is wrong?

Last thing he said did our Prophet (PBUH) follow mazhab and tell us to follow so why should i. Please could you help me

Walaykum ussalam w w

Tell him he says these things bcos he thinks there is contradiction between madh’hab and Quran Hadith

This is where he is wrong!
Madh’hab is nothing but a detailed research and explanation of Quran & Hadith

Ask him Do you read books and take medicine or Do you go to a doctor?
Why don’t you take your own medicine?

If you can trust a doctor with your life why can’t you trust the ulema with your Deen?

Tell him the prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam taught us that the ulema are the heirs of prophets.

Why were prophets sent? So that their message be heard. Similarly ulema shud be obeyed.

Quran says:
أطيعوا الله وأطيعوا الرسول و أولي الامر منكم
Ulul amr’a tafseer is ulema

Follow a madh’hab for 2 reasons!

1, it’s easier;
Much easier than delving in to Quran and Hadith for every mas’ala, because you don’t have time for that nor do you know all the Ahaadeeth

2, it’s safer;
Safer because if you do your own research, you are prone to mistakes and you will be held to account, on the day of qiyamah, for your errors

Imam ghazali has said that delving into Quran and Hadith without proper tools is like jumping into an ocean without knowing how to swim; you will definitely drown.

About the sect thing, ask him does he not call himself a salafi? That is also a sect. And prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam was not a salafi.

Relating to a madh’hab is just a form of saying I have confidence in the research of the mujtahid whom I claim to follow.

Salafees don’t follow Quran and Hadith. They either follow Their own understanding or the explanation provided by the salfi scholars or by imam bukhari.

What makes these more deserved to follow than the legends like imam Abu Hanifa imam shafi’ee imam Malik and imam Ahmed?

So stick your madh’hab and trust your local ulema, respect them, learn from them and stay in their company. They are waaritheene ambiyaa ayhimussalam.

Wassalam
