Q2: Is hair transplant permissible? If not, then why?

Question:

Is hair transplant permissible? If not, then why?

Answer:

In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.

The removal and applying of hair from one area of the head to another through surgery is permissible, provided it is done for medical reasons or because hair has fallen off prematurely.

With regards to artificial hair, if the hair is transplanted through surgery then apart from human hair, the use of animal hair is permissible. The use of another human’s hair is not permissible. If one applies it, he will be sinful. However, masah on such hair will be valid.

If a wig is worn instead of surgery, then it is necessary that it is made from artificial material or non-human hair. It should not be used for deception. Masah on a wig is impermissible. One must first take it off before doing masah on the head.

Pig hair is neither permissible to be used as a wig nor in surgery. In the case of using it, tahaarat will not be attained until it is taken off.
