Q778: Is it permissible for a Muslim to send their parents for Hajj with borrowed money?

Question:

Is it permissible for a Muslim to send their parents for Hajj with borrowed money?

Answer:

In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful

Sending one’s parents for hajj is a very virtuous act and will attract their pleasure and dua’s as well as the pleasure of Allah ta’ala. However, you should only do this if there is no interest involved in repayment and the borrower has the means to repay the debt. If the borrower is not confident that he wil be able to repay the debt when due then using this money for Hajj will be makrooh however the validity of hajj will not be affected and the Hajj will be valid.

And Allah knows best

Begging without a valid reason is not permissible.
However if one received this money without asking and performed hajj with it there will be no harm in this.
Please bear in mind this applies to a nafl donation. Zakat money can only be taken by someone who is poor and does not posses the nisab. Today’s nisab is £217.00.
