Question: Is there any evidence that you should read quran or make dua gathering when moving to a new house which was owned by a non muslim.
Answer: Quran shareef is recited for Barkat. Allah’s Rahmat is showered upon those who recite the qur’an, so Quran should not only be recited once. It should be recited regularly, everyday.
When moving in a new place there could be some effects remaining from the fisq, fujoor or kufr of the previous owner, so recitation of the Quran will assist in eradicating those effects.
The evidence for this is the sahih hadith of Sahih Muslim. The Prophet (s.a.w.) has said:
لا تجعلوا بيوتكم مقابر إن الشيطان ينفِر من البيت الذي تقرأ فيه سورة البقرة
“Do not turn your houses into cemeteries (the dead cannot recite quran in their graves) for surely, Satan flees from the house in which Surah al-Baqarah is read”
Hazrat sheikh Yunus Saheb went this place which had just been bought for a madressa, he said “There is zulmat (dark patches) on these walls, Get some boys and make them recite Quran”, which they did and sheikh said “Can you see the difference now”
So there is no harm in having a khatam. Everything does not have to be in the Khayrul quroon in exactly the same manner. Allah knows best.
