Q662: Did Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam himself pray one salah towards two qiblas

I had one question. I have seen one of your videos called Ziarah of Madinah Al Munawarrah. In this you have mentioned that the change of Qibla did not happen at Masjid-e-Qiblatain i.e. Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alaiwasallam received this instruction somewhere else. I have heard an Aalim here mentioning that it did happen in Masjid-e-Qiblatain where Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alaiwasallam was praying. Can you please elaborate on this issue of change of Qibla and the place of its occurence.

Assalamualaikum

The Hadith which says that rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam himself prayed towards both qiblas is narrated by Ibn sa’d, Ibn Abi Dawood and Albazzaar. It is dhaeef. Hafiz ibn hajar says
وفي كل منها ضعف
“In every chain of that Hadith, there is weakness”

The other hadith which I narrated in my bayan is in Bukhari shareef and it is a Saheeh Hadith.

It is narrated from al-baraa ibn aazib radiallahu anhu that ” Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam prayed facing baytul maqdis for 16/17 months, (ie in madinah munawwarah, after hijrah) And he really loved it to be turned towards the ka’bah. So Allah revealed “We have seen the turning of your face towards the sky” (ie longing for the instruction to face ka’bah, then he was told to face the ka’bah) ………….One sahabi performed salah with Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam. Then he went out after salah and he passed by a group of Ansaar busy in Asr salah, while facing baytul maqdis. So he called out that he testifies to the fact that he has prayed with Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam, and that He has faced towards the ka’bah. So the group turned around until they faced the ka’bah”. (the variation is of north south)

Hafiz ibn hajar adds from Ibn Abi Hatim’s Tafseer “This happened in the masjid of banu Harithah”

That is why I mentioned only one version. ( see Fat’hul baari p599 vol 1 باب التوجه نحو القبلة حيث
كان )
