In quraan we find that the sun runs and orbits around the earth. But the modern day science says the earth orbits around the sun and the sun is still.
Indeed the quranic theory is correct, but what is islams response to the modern day science.
Is science a revelation from God or is it just a theory and research of the scientists? Do all scientists say the same things or do they differ? Do the scientists of today agree fully with the previous ones or do they sometimes disagree? Do all of them accept the theory of evolution from Charles Darwin or are there some who think that he was out of his mind? Does every scientist believe in cloning or are there any who don’t?
In short, scientific research is not absolute and there are huge differences within that circle. Quran is the undisputed word of Allah. It has been transmitted to us through a chain of narrators who can never collaborate upon wrong. Millions of huffaz still prevail today and will remain until the Day of Qiyaamah – However, differences can appear in the interpretation of the verses.
Since you have asked this question we read in the Quran:
The word ‘sabaahat’ means swimming. So how beautifully did Allah describe their orbit by using the word ‘swimming’.
It is not mentioned in the Quran that the Sun orbits the Earth. However, it is a well known scientific fact that even the Sun is in orbit. This is what is referred to in the Quran. Visit the website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun
It is stated there that the Sun orbits our galaxy, the Milky Way:
“The Sun orbits the center of the Milky Way at a distance of approximately 24,000-26,000 light years from the galactic north pole, in about 225-250 million years.”
Fraser Cain has also written about this:
“Astronomers have calculated that it takes the Sun 226 million years to completely orbit around the center of the Milky Way.”
